The Dutch Liner 'JOHAN VAN OLDENBARNEVELT'
This Dutch Liner was on its way to Australia. It left Holland and at its next stop in Rome the ship's Captain was informed about the Skaubryn's disaster in the Indian Ocean. The ship proceeded to Aden and picked up some of the Skaubryn's survivors, bringing them to Australia.

The J. V. OLDENBARNEVELT at sea

This photo taken in March 1958, belongs to Mr Kees Postma of Vaarwel Nederland. As a 10 yr old (seen here an the left) he was travelling on the O.V. Oldenbarnevelt from Holland to Australia. He wrote a letter to me describing what he saw when the ship arrived at Aden and how his parents went about helping some of the survivors
The JVO was later on named SS Lakonia. It had a very tragic end
This beautiful Liner caught fire and sank. Over 100 of its passengers lost their lives.
